I don’t know how things are in your neck of the woods, but at the Robaina house we are in full on back-to-school mode. This time of year it’s so easy to get overwhelmed with the to-dos like registering the kids for school, getting physicals, going school supply shopping, clothes shopping, meet the teacher night and beyond! The tasks seem daunting, don’t they?

What I’ve found over the years is if I’m in tizzy, most likely others are as well. In our society we thrive on go, go, go and me, me, me! But what if as follower of Jesus you took a moment and interrupted that cycle? Would it get other people’s attention? Disrupting life as usual is a great opportunity to demonstrate God’s love in an unexpected way.

Our family recently moved across several states which means there’s a new neighborhood with new people and new schools. In other words, there’s lots of opportunity to grow. Lately I’ve been dreaming up ideas on small ways our family can bless the schools, kids and families around us as we begin a new school year and there are 3 that are doable and include the whole family.

IDEA #1: Service Providers Blessing

Grab some bags of chocolate or candy and deliver them to the office of the school bus service administrative office! Oftentimes service providers in the school system like bus drivers, bussing service, custodians and other staff are overlooked. Pick one you’d like to bless and bless their socks off!

 IDEA #2: Bus Stop Surprise

During the first week of school take donuts to the bus stop before school and surprise the other kids and parents with a sweet treat! Or, show up at the bus stop after school with savory snacks.

IDEA #3: Anonymous Note Card Ninja

Write anonymous words of encouragement with your kids on blank note cards and distribute them in teacher’s boxes or place them on the desks of office staff, custodians, etc. Who doesn’t like to receive something handwritten that’s encouraging? If you want, you can also include a gift card for a free coffee!

“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD.” Psalm 89:15 (NIV)

I hope this spurs you on to being a light-bearer for Christ. I’d also love to hear from you. Be sure and tag @SheWalksInTruth on social media and we’d love to feature you making an impacting this exciting time of year!!!

Much love,

Carrie Robaina
